Radio Butty

After a memorable appearance at Cavan Arts Festival 2025, Radio Butty returns, curated by the legendary Pat McCabe.

Fresh from the Flat Lake Festival of 16 years ago comes the weird, wonderful, absurd, unexpected, and unknown Radio Butty. You are invited to tune in with us for a very special lineup. Pat has invited his friends and foes from far and beyond, from musicians to poets, painters, bards, dreamers, makers, storytellers, and more.

Radio Butty controls the dial to welcome a mystery line in a cabaret, poetry-slam, performance art-style.The much-loved Pat McCabe is an award-winning playwright and novelist from Clones, County Monaghan.

His short story, The Call, won the Irish Press Hennessy Award, and his novel The Butcher Boy won the Irish Times Irish Literature Prize for Fiction. The Butcher Boy and Breakfast on Pluto were shortlisted for the Booker Prize for Fiction. Pat has been announced as the 2026 IPUT Writer-in-Residence at Wilton Park, Dublin, as selected by a committee chaired by Colm Tóibín. His short stories have been published in the Irish Times and the Cork Examiner, and his work has been broadcast by RTÉ in Ireland and the BBC.

What exactly is Radio Butty’s style?

It is the dreamlike, episodic, often damaged romance of the mid-to-late nineteen sixties, from the movie Vertigo right up through the Space Age, incorporating the films and music of Doris Day.
