Cavan Community Cinema brings films to communities across Cavan and the border region to foster connection, creativity, and cross-community engagement. It uses shared film experiences to strengthen community ties, promote wellbeing, and celebrate diverse voices.

A Quiet Love
Three Deaf couples, three remarkable love stories, an immersive cinematic experience. John & Agnes are a mixed religion Deaf couple, whose love story blossomed against a backdrop of the Troubles, they share what it was like for them, living through this violent period in our history.

Michelle & Kathy open up about life as a same sex couple, their IVF journey, and their experiences as parents to both hearing and Deaf daughters. Finally, Deaf boxer Seán and his hearing partner Deyanna reflect on an impossible decision Seán is faced with - keep his cochlear implant and ability to hear his partner & son, or have it surgically removed to pursue his dream of becoming a professional boxer.
This award-winning documentary is a cinematic celebration of enduring love, offering a deeply moving and uplifting insight into an often hidden community. This film will be followed by a Q+A featuring producers Anne Heffernan & Sean Herlihy, which will include ISL interpretation by Cormac Leonard.
Cavan Community Cinema is an initiative of Cavan Arts Festival, supported by Cavan County Council PEACEPLUS, a programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).

Enter through the main entrance of Cavan Institute, then turn right and walk down the hallway past the canteen. Continue to the end of the corridor where you will see an exit ahead. Just before the exit, turn left down the next hallway. The Cinema Room will be the first door on your right.

Insíonn Amhrán na Mara scéal Ben agus a dheirfiúr bheag Saoirse, an leanbh-rón deireanach, a théann ar thuras iontach isteach ar dhomhan draíochta na finscéalaíochta ársa atá ag dul i léig, agus iad ag iarraidh filleadh ar a mbaile cois farraige. Tógann an scannán inspioráid ó bhanrónta miotaseolaíocha bhéaloideas na hÉireann, neacha a chónaíonn mar rónta san fharraige ach mar dhaoine ar thalamh.
This screening is presented as part of Cavan Community Cinema in collaboration with Gaelphobal an Chabháin, and will be followed by a comhrá, an opportunity to engage in Irish language conversation after the film.
About the film
One night, Ben’s mother flees their lighthouse home and is never seen again, leaving behind baby Saoirse to be raised by their father. As the years pass, Saoirse remains unable to speak but becomes enchanted by her mother’s seashell and drawn to the seals that gather outside their home. When their grandmother takes them to the city, Ben and Saoirse find themselves pulled into a world of ancient magic where mystical creatures guide them toward understanding their mother’s fate and Saoirse’s true destiny.
